Mala Sangre is an all
female Flamenco street ensemble featuring
five spanish girls: María Robles, Marta
Robles, Pilar Crespo, Nerea Cordero and
Pilar Robles. They all sing, dance and
play a flamenco instrument (guitar, Cajón
or casta–uelas).
The group first appeared in 1996 when
the two sisters Maria and Marta Robles
(the main dancer and guitar player) toured
Europe with the singer and show woman
Maria Romero. They participated in many
prestigious festivals including the Neuchatel
and Ferrara Buskers' Festivals.
Mala Sangre went on to make two recordings
with this trio, on BMG Ariola in Holland,
in 1998. They also featured in a documentary
about the band entitled "Maria, Maria
and Marta" which played at cinemas
throughout Holland, as well as being broadcast
on national television.
Now, some years later, the two original
sisters have reinvented Mala Sangre(Bad
Blood) with an enthralling show full of
Spanish music and Flamenco dance. They
invited their sister Pilar and their two
cousins Pilar and Nerea to make this new
performance.
Their stunning repertoire consists of
rumbas, sevillanas, bulerías and tangos,
expertly played on guitar and percussion
instruments. They perform and sing with
a big female power, yet their show is
always presented with a great deal of
charm, packed full of humour and irresistible
crowd participation...
Their first participation in a festival
was in may 2005, in Ludwisburg, where
they got the second prize in a competiton
between 50 groupsÉafter that, they played
in Lecce, Pennabilli, Crema, and many
other festivals.
