Mon Oncle Le Bossu
(My Uncle the Hunchback)

Is it possible? That there is an instrument in this world that’s made out of a rubber glove, a rubber band and a bagpipe? And that you wear it on your head?

Have you ever seen anybody play a rubber ducks bum?

Well this is your chance to be the first on your block, because neither has the rest of the world. These are just a few of the incredible things you will see in this show. Watch As Mon-Oncle composes live on stage a song of love for his pet gold fish Rudie, by playing some of his many inconceivable instruments of eccentricity:

  • The Rubber Glove Bagpipe Hat
  • The Electric Guitar Fish Diving Helmet
  • The Rubber Duck’s Bum
  • The Electric Kazoo
  • The Saw (its better then it sounds)
  • The Trombone Kazoo

  • ...and a multitude of other nick knacks and patty whacks to give this show a song.

And are you ready...

...for the weird, the wonderful, the bizarre highlights of this show that has made it a guaranteed crowd pleaser around the world? So packed full of fun filled absurdity that it amazes and amuses audiences of all ages! Okay, well, here we go…

The Weird –

well its all weird! But the best is his weird and whacky ability to interact so effortlessly with his audience.

The Wonderful –

Flee, the finger puppet. This really is! A “Finger Puppet”! With only one hand five fingers and a pair of googly eyes Mon-Oncle brings alive Flee. Watch this adorable puppet do his incredible hand-balancing act. How can? A pair of googly eyes be that cute and that funny.

The Bizarre –

Fishy fishes leap of love, has been described by The Press as “a nonsensical, whimsical act of the uttermost absurdity”. It will make you ask questions like why? Love, of course. Why does Mon-Oncle make such music? Love of course. And why does Rudie, his pet goldfish, defy gravity and tempt death in a daring drop from a perch high above Mon-Oncle’s head. diving into his fish bowl so far below? Could it be? Of course it is. it’s Love (and also of course the laughter of an approving audience)!

And…

Is it possible to have all these questions and more answered? And still leave the show asking yourself, “ Did I really just see someone swallow a 3 foot long balloon and pull it out their bum as a poodle?”

Yes, it is… ...and Mon-Oncle is the only one who does it.

SOUND
  • OUTDOOR: No sound required for audiences from 2 to 3 hundred people. I have a self-contained show. My sound system is built into my pram.
  • INDOOR:
    • Sound system suitable to environment
    • lapel microphone
    • sound operator
    • D.I box
LIGHTING
  • OUTDOOR:
    • only require lights if show programmed at night
  • INDOOR:
    • Spotlight and general wash on dimmer switches. Light technician would be preferable but not essential depending on Difficulty of performance. if needed up to 5 minutes + 15 minutes dedicated tech rehearsal which includes consultation with Sound & lighting Techs.
STAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • OUTDOOR: Clear and level surface 4m x 4m deep with minimal distractions
  • INDOOR: Clear and level surface 4m x 3m deep with minimal distractions. With ramp or help to place pram on stage if needed. Prefer to be lower than or level with the audience
SET UP time
  • Set up time on arrival to the festival is depended on where I come from and how I get there. To be on the safe side and my kit needs to be totally set up. I would need to be on site one and a half to two hours prior.
  • Off stage: 30 min’s prior props set up.
  • On stage: no set up required
  • Build up time is minimal I have built this show as a walk on. So I set up off stage and from there I rove to the spot where I will be performing.

TEAR DOWN time
  • Outdoor: Tear down 10 minutes maximum, even quicker with help.
  • Off stage: 30 min’s prior props set up.
  • Indoor: with some help with prop removal. 2 min max

SHOW DURATION
  • OUTDOOR: 15 to 45 minutes, as you like
  • INDOOR: 5 to 30 minutes, as you like (to be negotiated)
  • Time between performances: Minimum of 1 & ½ hours
  • I have built the show using a “building blocks” concept; some pieces can be removed or added as need be. The 15 minute piece is usually walk around improvisation with the baby pram. This can be incorporated as the intro to the 30 minute street performance. The other option is a whole 45 minute show as one set place. Once again as you like. Most everything I do can be modified somewhat. It is what makes my show unique and never the same show twice.

DRESSING ROOM
  • Chairs
  • Tables and mirrors
  • Drinking water
  • Secure storage space
  • Power (minimum 2 outlets)
  • A couple of towels

Afterthoughts:

I hope that I have explained the flexibility of my show. I want you to know that it is bendable, shapeable and interchangeable. I am open to different performance locations and always like to help out the festival if there is something unique requested. Also, if give the proper amount of time and a lay out of the situation, I can make something that is specific to a certain festival.

I Look forward to working with you,

Dado
