Maureen Baas currently performs in theatre and festivals around the world. She also facilitates laughter in public and corporate environments. Running laughter clubs & performances with laughter installations (character based performances using sounds and moving images of laugher). Recently Melbourne was taken by a "laughter storm" where Maureen facilitated the Laughter Club on Federation Square during the Melbourne Festival 2004. National newspapers such as the Age, Herald Sun and big Issue published feature articles about this happening. For more info on this ask for a DVD on “producing sounds of Laughter” Maureen has various arts projects on the boil and manages a hotel and installation Arts Gallery in the Netherlands (www.melkwinkel.com)
She has a history in performing in and-creating, facilitating and directing entertainment projects in the Netherlands for corporations such as ABN AMRO, Seiko Communications, Sun Travel and Institute of the Tropics (Amsterdam). Her performance training includes Flamenco dance with Mercedes Ruiz in Spain, Indian Kathakali dance with Master RewiKumar in Trivandrum, India. While in Australia has worked with Leisa Shelton, Annie Lee (Kranski sisters) John Bolton, Al Wunder, Alex Pinder, Brett Wood and Dean Carey (NIDA). In 1999 she completed a performance degree at Art School, HogeSchool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, Netherlands. Maureen is born in The Netherlands and her native tongue is Dutch. She has been living in Australia since 2000. Dr. Madan Kataria in India has trained her as a laughter club teacher and in December 2003 she received the award of "the best Laughter woman in the world!

Last Chance Café

Last Chance Café with Mademoiselle BottleShot! A human oddity who has survived the centuries, the ancient fruit of a union between a priest and a fortune-teller. Over time her generous hips have formed a bar cum human laboratory for you to lean on, her skin crafted into wood and steel. Don’t be afraid of her glass eye that looks right through you – and me. Roll up! Roll up! Taste her magical potions, poetry of ancient tales, songs and lost dreams. Always in the company of her loyal musician who protects her rare skill producing the elixir of live, above all else! Mlle BottleShot will dance the Flamenco and pour you a sip from the river of life that runs through her veins. But wait, there’s more…Mlle BottleShot has a twin sister and they love to duet. Together they are the twin pied pipers of Hamlin, juggling the bar with eight legs and four arms. Last Chance Café can be invited with one or both BottleShot ladies but always includes their loyal musician. If both sisters attend they are happy to bond together forming a circular bar or to rove separately - the choice is yours. Last Chance Café is available to perform an intimate show for 5, and a 20 min. stage and/or street show. Mlle BottleShot loves to perform in different settings such as intimate cabaret venues, sheds, bus stops, forest and bike tracks…

  • If you are expecting an audience greater than 300, she will require a wireless headset, amp, speakers, CD player and a technical operator. With use of video footage (in a show) : she requires a beamer, DVD player and (theatrical) projection area and operator

STAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • PERFORMANCE AREA: Minimum performance space of 2m x 2m with a flat service to wheel around. More space is appreciated. Ideal: 4m by 4m
PERFORMANCE SURFACE
  • Suitable and flat enough to wheel around upon
SET UP AND BUMP OUT TIME
  • STAGE SET UP TIME: 1 hour if:
    • the stage is not level with the floor
    • 2. the entrance width/clearance is < than 1.5m
  • Otherwise STAGE SET UP TIME – 5 minutes to wheel the bar onto the stage immediately before the show.

  • STAGE BUMP OUT TIME: to dismantle the bar: 1 hour if:
    • the stage is not level with the floor
    • the entrance width/clearance is < than 1.5m
  • Otherwise STAGE BUMP OUT TIME - 5 minutes for wheeling the bar out of the space

  • Performance preparation time off stage: 1 hour
  • Time between performances: Minimum of 1 hour
SHOW DURATION
  • STREET: 40-45 minutes
  • INDOOR: 20 minutes
